MTH5142 Introduction to Optimal Transport 3 6 Major Master/Doctor 1-8 - No
Optimal transport is a current hot topic and it has many connections with gradient flows, partial differential equations and geometry. Furthermore, recently it has also many applications in machine learning, image processing, computer vision and economics. In this course we would present formulation of the optimal transport problem, Kantorovich duality, c-concave functions, geometry of optimal transportation, Wasserstein distances, discrete optimal transport, continuous optimal transport, and semi-discrete optimal transport.
MTH5143 Matrix Analysis for Data Analysis 3 6 Major Master/Doctor - No
This course aims to understand the matrix analysis required for data analysis. This course would contain matrix decompositions (LU decomposition, Singular value decomposition, Eigenvalue decomposition, QR factorization etc), Principal component analysis, least square problem according to matrix form, Low rank matrix, some special matrices (Shift matrix, Circulant matrix, Toeplitz matrix, Distance matrix etc), Covariance matrix and Multivariate Gauss distribution, and optimization algorithms.
MTH5144 Actuarial Risk Management 3 6 Major Master/Doctor 1-8 Korean Yes
This course covers market risk, interest rate risk, liquidity risk, and credit risk. In addition, insurance risk such as mortality, lapse, morbidity will be discussed. Finally, enterprise risk management is included.
MTH5145 Actuarial modeling 3 6 Major Master/Doctor Korean Yes
This course introduces modeling procedures on actuarial problems. In addition, this course discusses estimation methods of parameters in loss models and hypothesis testing. Estimations of mortality, lapse and morbidity will be implemented. Finally, ratemaking and loss reserving will be discussed.
MTH5146 Economics for Actuaries 3 6 Major Master/Doctor Korean Yes
An introduction to the principles of economics (both microeconomics and macroeconomics) with emphasis on decision-making by households and firms, the way in which individual markets work, the distribution of income, governmental impact on specific markets, and the behavior of economic aggregates such as total output, total employment, the price level, and the rate of economic growth; and government policies which affect them.
MTH5147 Financial Management for Actuaries 3 6 Major Master/Doctor Korean Yes
This is a comprehensive theory and practice to corporate finance for actuaries, including description and valuation of financial instruments, including stocks, bonds, derivatives, investment decisions, capital budgeting, and Capital structure. Also Asset-Liablilty Matching will be covered.
MTH5148 Investments for Actuaries 3 6 Major Master/Doctor Korean Yes
This is a comprehensive theory and practice to investment for actuaries. Topics include risk and return, portfolio theory, the Capital Asset Pricing Model, Arbitrage Pricing Theory, Market efficiency, bond pricing, valuing derivatives and risk management, etc.
MTH5149 Actuarial Mathematics I 3 6 Major Master/Doctor Korean Yes
An introduction to the mathematics of actuarial science. Topics include survival distributions and life tables, life annuities, net premiums, and net premium reserves.
MTH5150 Actuarial Mathematics II 3 6 Major Master/Doctor Korean Yes
A continuation of Acturial Math. 1; multiple life functions, multiple decrement models, valuation theory for pension plans, insurance models (including expenses), and non-forfeiture benefits and dividends.
MTH5151 Insurance Accounting for Actuaries 3 6 Major Master/Doctor Korean Yes
There are a lot of parts that used the concept of accounting, such as analysis of surplus, accounting treatment of insurance company's policy reserves, IFRS17, etc. In other words, it is a structure that we can’t be understood if understanding of accounting is weak. In particular, the insurance industry is sensitive to the international accounting standard ‘IFRS17’, which will be introduced in 2022. A specialized department has been formed and is thoroughly prepared. IFRS17 matches assets and liabilities, and requires an understanding of accounting in the insurer's liability estimation process. The actuary should understand the accounting when performing actuarial work. This is because IFRS 17 specified the process of analyzing profits and losses of retirement benefits calculated under the DB system. In addition, we should know accounting because actuaries will communicate when performing business and tasks with accountants. For the reasons described above, Korean actuaries are taking the “Accounting Principles” courses in the Korea’s actuary exam so that they can understand concepts. In this class, students will understand the actuarial science based on the basic accounting concept, and will build a foundation on which they can carry out their work.
MTH5152 Loss Models 3 6 Major Master/Doctor Korean Yes
To construct empirical models used in insurance, we will estimate failure time and loss distribution, the variance of estimators and confidence intervals for failure time and loss distributions using Kaplan -Meier, Nelson-Aalen, Kernel density estimators and Cox proportional hazards model.
MTH5153 Mathematical Statistics I 3 6 Major Master/Doctor Korean Yes
Topics include the concept of random variable and several statistical probability functions. Characteristics and relationships among the functions will be studied to apply to real world. Also random sample and distribution of sample mean will be explained.
MTH5154 Mathematical Statistics II 3 6 Major Master/Doctor - No
Topics include theory of estimation and hypotheses testisng which are necessary in statistical decision making. Concentrate on point estimations, interval estimations and most powerful tests, likelihood ratio tests, goodness-of-fit tests, sequential likelihood ratio tests, and nonparametric estimation and testing methods.
MTH5155 Applied Statistics 3 6 Major Master/Doctor Korean Yes
This course studies theories of linear model, time series, and regression analysis. For regression analysis we will study least square estimates of parameters, single and multiple regression, hypothesis testing and confidence intervals, testing of models, data analysis and appropriateness of models. For time series we will study linear time series models, moving average, autoregressive and ARIMA models, estimation, forecast errors and confidence intervals.
