- SKKU Professors selected as 2019 Highly Cited Researcher, HCR
- Clarivate Analytics announced it’s 2019 Highly Cited Researcher, HCR Prof. Nam Gyu Park, Ahn. Myung Ju, Lee Young Hee respectively Recently, 41 domestic researchers were selected as the world's Highly Cited Researchers in 2019, published by Claribate Analytics (former Thomson Reuters). It belongs to 18 domestic universities. The top five were SNU(9), UNIST (6), Korea University (4), KAIST (3), and Sungkyunkwan University (3). According to HCR 2019, 41 domestic university researchers were selected from 45 fields. This year, Korean university researchers ranked 19th in the world. Clarive Analytics' Highly Cited Researcher (HCR) is selected based on the top 1% cited papers in each field. The purpose of this study is to identify researchers with high impact worldwide by selecting researchers, and to expand the boundaries of knowledge and innovate by sharing results. Cross-field, a criterion formed last year, has been established to identify researchers influential in many fields, but whose citation counts in a single field are less than the top 1%. For example, an immunologist can be both a biochemist and a molecular biologist, and a chemist can also be classified as a material scientist or engineer. In other words, the selection criteria were established to meet the relevance of the age of convergence science, going beyond the traditional category that has been artificially established. From Sungkyunkwan University, Prof. Nam Gyu Park, Ahn. Myung Ju, Lee Young Hee were selected this year. The professors have all been selected from cross-fields.

- The research team led by Prof. Hwan-soo Yoon discovers new photosynthetic pigment complex
- The research team led by Prof. Hwan-soo Yoon(Dept. of Biological Sciences) discovers new photosynthetic pigment complex in marine red algae. "Uncovering the Secrets of the Photosynthesis Evolution of Marine Red Algae" The research team led by Prof. Hwan-soo Yoon (Dept. of Biological Sciences, SKKU) says the team discovered a new photosynthetic pigment complex of marine red algae. The team found a new linker protein that supports the pigment complex gene and the structure of the pigment complex by deciphering the genome of the unicellular marine algae Porphyridium purpureum. The results of this research, which was conducted by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, the Multi-District Genome Project, the Rural Development Administration's Bio Green 21 Project, and the National Research Foundation of Korea's Midsize Research Project, were published online on October 23 in Nature Communication: IF: 11.878. The study provided important clues as to how red algae evolved using a broad spectrum of light in a variety of marine environments. Prof. Yoon said, "The research of marine biological genomes is a world-class field in Korea, and continuous support should be supported to lead this further." This research was conducted by Prof. Hwan-soo Yoon (Dept. of Biological Sciences, SKKU, corresponding author), Jun-mo Lee (Kyungpook National Univ. first author), Dong-seok Kim graduate student in the laboratory and conducted in a joint international study with Rutgers Univ. (New Jersey, USA).
