- Announcement of the selection of PILOT projects for the 2018 University Innovation Support Project Sungkyunkwan University was selected as the final pilot project of the University Innovation Support Project, which was announced by the Ministry of Education in order to prepare for the fourth industrial revolution and to support the improvement of the university's basic competence such as the vision of the university and the condition of education. The Ministry of Education's 'the PILOT project for university innovation in 2018' is a project that assesses mid- to long-term development plans submitted by universities to establish direction of innovation on its own, and supports university development capabilities through autonomous innovation. Sungkyunkwan University presented 16 strategies and 62 detailed development plans for 'the University that innovates and shares for students' success.' Through the project selection, Sungkyunkwan University will pursue balanced development of education, research and industry cooperation, and create a new model of university education success that shares and spreads its resources and programs to communities, countries and even global communities.

- A professor, Carsten Rott's team of physics contributes to illuminating the cosmic source through neutrinos detection Participation as Korea`s only research team in the Ice Cube International Joint Research Institute supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF) The Ice Cube International Joint Research Institute, in which a team of Professor Carsten Rott of the Sungkyunkwan University School of Physics have participated, presented the origin of high energy neutrino through the international scientific journal 'Science' on July 13 for the first time in the world. Neutrino, one of the basic particles that make up the universe, is called ghost particles because it is difficult to observe with any equipment. The origin has opened up a new horizon in neutrino astronomy by uncovering that it is a celestial body, 'blazar,' which is 3.7 billion light years from Earth. The eight researchers at Sungkyunkwan University, led by the professor Carsten Rott, have joined as the only Korean research team taking part in the Ice Cube International Joint Research Institute and it has participated as an official research cooperation organization of the International Joint Research Group since 2013. - The development fund of the professor Dong-ki Lee (the chemistry department)
- The development fund of the professor Dong-ki Lee (the chemistry department) On August 14, 2018, there was a delivery ceremony for the development fund of the professor Dong-ki Lee (the chemistry department) and he donated the fund of 1 billion KRW at the chemistry building. The president Kyu-sang Chung, officers of academic affairs, chemistry professors, the dean of College of Science, and donor families attended and expressed their gratitude to the professor Dong-ki Lee. The president Kyu-sang Chung encouraged the chemistry department by referring to external activities that industrialize the professor Dong-ki Lee's research. And he said that Sungkyunkwan University will get a big opportunity to become an innovative university. The professor Dong-ki Lee, a fund deliverer, said, "I have been working on the development of new drugs since I was in the third grade of my undergraduate course. And also the current research results have been achieved by working in the chemistry department of Sungkyunkwan University, thanks to the support of fellow professors and university. Therefore, I donated a development fund to contribute to the educational conditions of students with the will to study chemistry.”

- Professor Joungreal Ahn, of Physics department created a 4D Experimental Space for the first time.
- Professor Joungreal Ahn, of Physics department created a 4D Experimental Space for the first time. This is the first time that Korean researchers have developed a way to enable experimental research in a four-dimensional space. The Korea Research Foundation announced on July 28 that Sungkyunkwan University physics department researchers succeeded in realizing four-dimensional space by giving four independent dimensional axes to graphene which is a two-dimensional substance. The results of the study were published on Wednesday (August 28) in Science. This is a translation of the khan news. (Source: http://news.khan.co.kr/kh_news/khan_art_view.html?artid=201806290300015&code=610100) (Original dissertation: http://science.sciencemag.org/content/early/2018/06/27/science.aar8412.full) Abstract Quantum states of quasiparticles in solids are dictated by symmetry. We experimentally demonstrate Dirac electrons in a two-dimensional quasicrystal without translational symmetry. A dodecagonal quasicrystalline order was realized by epitaxial growth of twisted bilayer graphene rotated exactly 30°. The graphene quasicrystal was grown up to a millimeter scale on an SiC (0001) surface while maintaining the single rotation angle over an entire sample and was successfully isolated from a substrate, demonstrating its structural and chemical stability under ambient conditions. Multiple Dirac cones replicated with the 12-fold rotational symmetry were observed in angle-resolved photoemission spectra, which revealed anomalous strong interlayer coupling with quasi-periodicity. Our study provides a way to explore physical properties of relativistic fermions with controllable quasicrystalline orders.

- The commendation ceremony for lecturer who got excellent grades in the 2017 lecture evaluation
- The commendation ceremony for lecturer who got excellent grades in the 2017 lecture evaluation The commendation ceremony for lecturer who got excellent grades in the 2017 lecture evaluation was held on Tuesday, June 19 in the dean’s office of the college of science (#32213). Professor Young Soo Lee has been selected as a good lecturer for the third consecutive year since the 2015 academic year. In particular, it is meaningful that the 2017 academic year was awarded by getting 100 scores from all of the students of "Discrete Mathematics" and "Differential and Integral Calculus 1". When In Tae Yoo, the dean of College of Science, asked about the secret to getting a high score in the lecture evaluation, Professor Lee Young Soo pointed out the consideration of students as the most important thing. The Excellent Instructor was selected based on the comprehensive evaluation of the lecture evaluation score for the first and second semesters of the 2017 school year, the average number of enrollees, and past award winning.
