Sungkyunkwan University professor SONG Choongeui team, solved challenging organic chemistry problem
The team pioneered path for production of high-value compounds required for the bio-pharmaceutical industry

Sungkyunkwan University presented that professor SONG Choongeui’s research team of organic chemistry has solved the Mannich reaction of primary alkyl compounds. Research results were recently published in the chemistry journal 'Angewandte Chemie'.
Mr. Song's team reported the synthesis method of Sitagliptin which is known as diabetes medicine, through application of developed technology. In South Korea, Sitagliptin is known as the best-selling medicine on the prescription drug market in fourth quarter of 2015.
Mr. Song's team finished third axis of Sitagliptin synthesis using the green "organic catalysts" system that does not contain any transition metal. Academia discussed its high possibility for decades about this issue and Mr.Song’s team realized it,
"The study will make it easy to produce high-value compounds for a variety of eco-friendly and simple process for contributing to the health industry," Mr. Song said.
