◎ Creating a warm world of President Ryu Deok-Hee
What is 'Service' for President Ryu?
“As you can see from my dedication, I think that service is a guide to human health and happiness. Simply medicines cannot enrich people's lives. I think service is helping others materially and mentally. It is the first step of service to be willing to spend my time for others. Would not it be a service to be interested in others' happiness and try to nurture or protect that happiness?”
Life to practice sharing
He is known to donate large sums of money to social welfare facilities and his alma mater. But he says that his actions are 'sharing' rather than 'donation'. He practices sharing in the charity community of love and the fool sharing foundation among social welfare facilities. Social welfare facilities include facilities for people with disabilities and facilities for single mothers. In order for disabled people to be treated and living in a better environment, President Ryu gives his property to social welfare facilities so that unmarried mothers can become independent. In addition, he helped build preschool and mental retardation treatment centers. The Center for Mentally Retarded Healers named 'Solsaem our Center' as the 'Solsaem' of President Ryu Deok-Hee’s pen name. People with disabilities in this center receive a monthly salary compared to the amount of money they make and sell. President Ryu purchases cookies made by people with disabilities and helps them economically. He also distributes medicines manufactured by Kyungdong Pharma at facilities where the elderly are living.
"I cannot make a society, but I can make society a better and warmer place. I am practicing sharing to make a better world. I believe that a better world will come by increasing the number of people who share my own thoughts and behaviors." In addition to his social facilities, he also shared Sungkyunkwan University Development Fund, Global Center Building Fund, Songcheon Medical Research Fund, Songcheon Foundation Scholarship Fund, Department Development Fund. As for this amount, he says: “As proceeding, I split so much money. When I was in school, I was able to study with a scholarship and subsidy. I am glad that I helped the school that helped me again and that it was spent to help my juniors study in a better environment.”
“Our school has made me now. This is because studying chemistry at Sungkyunkwan University is the cornerstone of Kyungdong Pharma. Isn’t our school developing more and more? I am proud to see Sungkyunkwan University now rank higher in the world university rankings these days. I was able to give the same amount of money to my alma mater because my alma mater brought me up. "In addition to my alma mater and social welfare facilities, President Ryu does not spare any help to his employees. Indeed, two of the company's executives each died of liver cancer in 1985 and a heart attack in 1988. Ryu did not only role of chief mourner of the two, but also continued to pay the families' salaries and subsidized their tuition. "In fact, there was a lot of objection to helping both of them. However, the company has a concept of 'us'. I thought it was natural because they were our members before employees. What's even better is that my company's employees have deepened their affection for the company, as I see my constant interest in employees. I think this made the company a little more sticky and affectionate. “
Love of President Ryu Deok-Hee's alma mater
He also served as general director of our school. From 2006 to 2008, and from 2010 to 2016, he was the chairman of the general meeting. Kyungdong Pharmaceutical and General Diversity Chairman, as well as a fund to build a global center. The Global Center is currently being used as the Sungkyunkwan University general meeting building. In order to build this building, he earned 12.3 billion won from our school alumni. "I feel bad when I see old building because the building is not so good, but it is nice to see a nice building now. I feel very good because I think that our school alumni have provided me with a meeting place in the future. I think that the establishment of this building is also meaningful for showing Sungkyunkwan University as one. "
One word for juniors
"Above all, I want you to find something you want to do. Work in a job that can reflect your values and what you like and what you can do well. I also want you to do anything hard. It never betray sweat and effort. Spend your youth in a better picture of yourself. I believe that you will be a talented person to shine Sungkyunkwan University. Thank you."
